Summer with DITA is always a whirlwind, and this year was no different! This summer we were thrilled to have our largest cohort ever working at eleven host sites throughout Denver and the Front Range. Interns worked on everything from teaching summer camps to organizing events to analyzing DEI initiatives. In between doing this work, they gathered as a group to visit one another's host sites and attend networking events.
Our final gathering of the summer was on August 5. We were generously hosted by The Biennial of the Americas, and even received an exclusive tour of the upcoming exhibit site of Black Cube. Interns shared about their time as DITA interns and also took some well-deserved time to play games as a cohort one last time. This has been a wonderful summer and we can't wait to see what else these arts & culture leaders do; we know they're all just getting started!
Looking Ahead
As we head into the fall, we're excited to announce a behind-the-scenes change for DITA that will provide the program with even more support as it continues to grow. Since its inception in 2018, the Art Students League of Denver (ASLD) has served as the fiscal host for DITA. After careful consideration and through a mutual decision-making process with key stakeholders, ASLD will now administer the Diversity in the Arts internship program. The main change is that rather than having an outside contractor manage the program, ASLD's Manager of Community Engagement & Exhibitions (Holly K. Hurd) will serve as the Program Manager for DITA, while the Executive Director (Rachel Basye) and Communications Manager (Tessa Crisman) of ASLD will provide additional support to the program. This shift will provide DITA with more infrastructural resources and institutional capacity. We're excited to have more staff power behind DITA as we head into another internship season!
The summer of 2023 will mark DITA's fifth summer internship. We can't wait for another summer with amazing young leaders, and we hope you'll join us along the way! Stay tuned for applications to be a DITA Host Site or Intern opening in the fall.
